Elevate Parents...
Parents…
We are ending a great summer. We have seen God do some great things in our students’ lives as they served in Jackson, MI through World Changers. We have also been able to continue to build strong connections between our adult leaders and the students they minister to.
Emily and I have been praying two things for you this summer as you prepare for a new fall. First: TRANSITION.
With each new year comes a new set of “transitions.” For some of you the transitions will begin as their bodies tell them they are adults, but their mind, experience, and sheer common sense is far from being ready to tackle the obstacles the world will through at them. For others, your student if already in full hormonal transition and your life if filled with ridiculous arguments, crazy drama, the opposite sex, and even though they think you are the dumbest person alive, they will come through this transition, it does get better. The last group of you are transitioning into another world altogether… You want them to stay and they want to transition out. Did you do a good enough job, will they make it, why haven’t they called me today, is something wrong… These questions fill your mind, but remember Jesus is in charge of all the transitions, and He is good. He loves you. He even loves your student more than you do.
Second: LISTEN.
The greatest thing you can teach your student to prepare them for the transitions is how to listen/hear the Spirit of God. To hear His voice and respond to it out of obedience and love, for His way is good. In Galatians 5:16-26 Paul tells us that if we don’t want to produce Fruits of the Flesh we must: Walk by the Spirit (v. 16), Led by the Spirit (v. 18), Live by the Spirit (v. 25), and to Follow the Spirit (v. 25). Unfortunately many parents, if their honest, would say that they don’t know how to listen/hear the Spirit of God. Why not start now… Start now by asking God to make you sensitive to His voice so that you can become the kind of person who does listen and respond to God’s voice. And in so doing you become a person who reflects the image of Christ, and produce fruit.
Thank you for allowing Emily and I the opportunity to serve you and your students this new year.
